Senator Bolques rushed to hospital yesterday during Senate meeting; resting today

ST. CROIX — At-Large Senator Angel Bolques Jr. is resting at home today after being rushed to the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center Wednesday.

The Legislature’s Capitol Police quickly transported the senator to the hospital with sirens blaring after he participated in the first block of a Committee on Rules and Judiciary meeting.

“He had a medical emergency, and he was transported to the emergency room to be checked out,” Senate President Novelle Francis Jr. said. “I kept in touch with them, and they said, ‘everything was OK.’”

Francis said Bolques was released from the hospital following an examination by an emergency room physician.

“We certainly wish him well to make sure a speedy recovery,” he said.

Francis said he spoke with Bolques Wednesday night.

“He seems to be resting well,” he said.

Bolques’ office issued a statement today announcing he was in good condition and is expected to make a swift recovery. The statement noted his return to the Senate is anticipated as soon as possible, and that the community’s overwhelming concern, support, and prayers during this time have deeply touched the senator.

The Senate president stressed the importance for individuals to keep their health in order.

“I know that this work, a lot of times you put in a lot of hours, and you sacrifice your own health to certainly do the work that’s required here, so I just want to wish him well, pace himself and a speedy recovery,” Francis said.
