On today’s WTJX Radio NewsFeed: The U.S. Coast Guard and St. John Rescue responded to a grounded and partially submerged catamaran near Christmas Cove, St. Thomas. A Florida judge has denied former Senator Steven Payne Sr.’s request for a new trial in his sexual battery case, clearing the way for sentencing — now pushed to December 10. Defense attorneys for former VIPD Commissioner Ray Martinez are asking a federal judge to allow presentation of the government’s star witness history of convictions, arguing Daivid Whitaker's credibility is central to the corruption case involving alleged bribes. Former assistant principal at the Joseph Gomez Elementary School on St. Thomas, Clifton D. Boyd, was arrested today and charged with sexually assaulting a male student during the 2019–2020 school year. Marcellina Ventura-Douglas is the Radio News Reporter for WTJX-FM, 93.1. Born and raised on St. Croix, Ventura-Douglas graduated from the University of the Virgin Islands, where she received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. While at UVI, she worked in the office of Senator Shawn-Michael Malone before beginning her career in radio. Ventura-Douglas fell in love with radio growing up, when she and her father would spend every morning and afternoon listening to local radio news legend, Alvin G. After leaving Senator Malone's office, she became the program director of Vivid Streaming. She then joined WTJX-TV, Channel 12 as a producer. Soon after, she was tapped to switch to WTJX-FM to present an evening news.
