ST. THOMAS — The Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands extended the temporary designations of former Superior Court Judges Renee Gumbs-Carty and Jomo Meade as senior sitting judges of the Superior Court until December 31.
The administrative order continuing their temporary designations was signed on December 31, 2024 by Chief Justice Rhys Hodge and will allow both judges to continue presiding only over all cases assigned to them. The order also mandates Superior Court Presiding Judge Debra Watlington to submit a six-month status report to Hodge by June 30 listing all cases that remain assigned to Gumbs-Carty and Meade.
Both Gumbs-Carty and Meade will be compensated at the per diem rate as specified by the rules of the Supreme Court. Their appointments shall supersede all prior appointments as senior sitting judges currently in effect.
