ST. CROIX — Seaborne Airlines’ cancellations continued into a third week after mechanical issues forced the airline to begin canceling flights on August 18, according to a company official.
Seaborne has updated travelers with a message on its website indicating that normal operations would resume Thursday.
Phil Lambrechts, Seaborne executive director of Operations, was less certain that flights would resume as advertised on the website. He indicated that the airline hoped to resume operations on Thursday, but that doing so depended on whether mechanical repairs could be completed in time.
“We are having mechanical issues and have been receiving parts today that hopefully will rectify the problems, and we will resume flying very soon,” he wrote in a text message.
The primary mechanical issue involved sending a section of one of the seaplane’s engines to Alabama for overhaul, according to Lambrechts. He indicated that Seaborne was delayed in shipping the parts for a few days due to the passage of Hurricane Erin on August 16, followed by a two-day delay from FedEx in returning the overhauled components.
